What are your rates?
Please contact us for rates specific to your request. Usually screening opinions are billed based on the time it takes to review a case. The preparation of certain letters and reports may have a set fee.
What kind of documentation is necessary in order to tell if a case is viable?
Opinions can only be given based on the information provided. While Dr. Crosbie will review whatever is provided to her, a complete record of all relevant documentation is preferred so that an accurate opinion can be given. Omitting medical details or documentation that may initially seem irrelevant can completely alter an opinion when discovered later.
Can you comment on the viability of cases that involve other areas of medicine?
Emergency medicine is a broad specialty that encompasses many other areas of medicine. As an emergency medicine specialist, Dr. Crosbie is well positioned to screen files and determine if consultation with other specialists is necessary to establish the viability of a case. Many cases involve multiple specialties, so a high-level review of a case to identify the medical and legal issues at the outset is advantageous. A key attribute of a physician who does screening work is that they know when to refer, and when not to give opinions on matters outside of their scope of practice. Dr. Crosbie has an extensive network of colleagues in other specialties whom she can informally consult for screening purposes, and to whom she can formally refer issues or cases if necessary. This approach is more cost effective than asking multiple specialists for formal opinions up front simply to determine the viability of a case. However, if Dr. Crosbie is considering providing formal written expert opinion, she is unable to provide this in specialties other than emergency medicine.

Do you still charge for negative opinions?
Yes. Payment is required for the time it takes to review a case and explain why it is not viable.
Will you do work for lawyers representing the plaintiff or defendant?
Either! A respected expert is one who can assess a case from different perspectives.

Can you provide expert reports and testimony?
Viability review and dedicated consultancy as a case moves through litigation are the primary focuses of Dr. Crosbie's work, but she will consider providing expert reports and testimony within her own area of expertise for plaintiffs and defendants on a case-by-case basis.
How long does it take you to review a case?
It depends on the complexity of the case and the volume of material for review. Timelines can be important and are carefully considered when Dr. Crosbie agrees to review a case. If there is an upcoming limitations issue, litigation procedure, or other important date, please let us know and Dr. Crosbie will make every effort to accommodate you.
Do you ever do work for individual patients?
No. Dr. Crosbie will only do work for plaintiff and defendant law firms or other organizations representing these parties.
